Your Guemes Island Library
In early 1995 Islanders overwhelmingly said that they wanted a library on Guemes. A library committee of volunteers was formed, which later became the Library Board of Directors, to implement islander wishes.
The Guemes Island Library opened in October 1995. The Community Center Association loaned space for books and a computer. At the request of the Library Board the Community Center unanimously voted to allow the library to construct a new addition. This addition was to house the library and provide space for small meetings. The cost of building the current library facility was covered entirely through donations.
The library has sponsored many activities, including poetry readings, a one woman play, a women’s health talk, computer home page design, story telling, ice cream socials and other topics of interest to islanders. It is open, free of charge, to all Guemes Islanders and property owners.
The library is staffed by community volunteers and guided by the volunteer Board.
Your donations of money, books and time are the sole support for your library. We ask for your continuing support and ideas and thank those whose past support has made the library a reality.
